- About Deakin
In October 2009, during trimester breaks, the cohort from Aceh visited Minaret College - Islamic College of Melbourne South and East, in Springvale and spent the morning meeting with the Director/Founder Mr. Mohamed Hassan OAM. They discussed curriculum, results and community activities with staff. The group were very fortunate to visit classrooms from junior, middle and senior schools, and observed teaching techniques as well as participation in classroom activities.
Minaret College is a co-educational independent Islamic school. It was established in 1992 to provide an integrated curriculum for children from Grade Prep to Year 12.
The integrated curriculum includes subjects which are taught in the Victorian Education System, Australia, in addition to Islamic studies, Qur’an, Hadith and Arabic.
The College aims to encourage and assist young people in developing the skills, attitudes and forms of knowledge both secular and Islamic, which they will carry with them into adulthood. Thus, our college endeavours to ensure that all students have access to a common and comprehensive education by which they gain the knowledge they need to participate in a democratic multi-cultural society.
It also believes that sound teaching and learning practices should offer young people the opportunity to grow as autonomous Muslim adults and introduce them to their rights and responsibilities within their respective community.
