Work placements

Work placements refer to work experience arrangements that do not have academic credit attached to them. Students at all levels and in all streams of study are eligible to undertake a work placement.

Insurance coverage is provided by Deakin University.

Students are required to complete an indemnity form prior to the commencement of the work placement, and to provide proof of insurance coverage to the host organisation.

Both these documents are available from the Experiential Learning Officer.

The Faculty of Arts has in place agreements with the following organisations to accept journalism students throughout the year:

  • Channel 9; *
  • Network Ten; **
  • The Age; *
  • WIN TV; *
  • Geelong Advertiser; ***
  • Herald Sun; * and
  • Melbourne Weekly Magazine **

* 3rd year only

** 2nd and 3rd year only

*** All years

The Experiential Learning Officer is calling for applications for these industry specific placements in 2008. Students are asked to submit an updated resume and covering letter (indicating which placement/s you are applying for), as well as a folio of any previously published articles.

Applications should be lodged via email to jo.sarah@deakin.edu.au no later than Friday 14 March, 2008.

Students studying other disciplines are encouraged to source their own work placements.
