Work placements

Due to the implementation by the Federal Government of the Fair Work Act in 2010, students are no longer able to complete non-credit-bearing work placements (or work experience) within industry.

The only exceptions to this are as follows:

  • unpaid internships which are undertaken as part of a unit (credit-bearing), or a course requirement  for industry registration (not necessarily credit-bearing), is permitted;
  • paid internships (for credit or otherwise) are permitted, however payment for work should conform to award rates and minimum durations specified for the industry; and
  • internships undertaken at a not-for-profit organisations are permitted.
