Bachelor of Arts (Honours) 2004 and
Bachelor of Arts (Professional Writing) 2003
GRADUATE EMMA ARMSTRONG believes the key to her success is her ability to communicate with her students. "The thing that I love about my employment in the TAFE sector is the interaction with my students and knowing that I am helping them gain important life and work skills," she said.
Emma graduated from Deakin’s Melbourne Campus at Burwood in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts (Professional Writing) with Honours. Her passions for the literary world have led to work in the publishing industry, academia and pursuing her ultimate goal of publishing her first novel.
"My career highlight has been seeing my writing pieces published in a magazine or online. Speaking on writing workshop panels and participating at writing festivals has also been a great personal triumph."
"Although I haven’t become a famous author yet, my degree has assisted me in every career choice that I have made."
Emma explained that her course helped draw out her passion for writing. "The lecturers at Deakin were an invaluable source of wisdom during my course. They helped me confirm that writing is my passion and enabled me to draw on my strengths and pursue my dreams."
"Deakin has a great student life and I have made life-long friends that I will always treasure".
Emma has mapped out a busy schedule over the next few years to further develop her career. "For the immediate future, I plan to continue working in jobs that bring in a steady income, but enable me to chip away at my novel, write and perform at writing festivals," she said.
Emma currently works as a sessional teacher in the Victorian TAFE sector, lecturing in information technology.
