Advertising

Overview

Advertising is part of a huge industry that encompasses mainstream media communication, new media and electronic communication, direct marketing, sales promotion, design and corporate image making.

Deakin's Master of Communication with a specialisation in Advertising provides students with the theoretical background of advertising along with the practical skills for enhancing creativity to ensure graduates can successfully engage in the diverse roles available in the advertising industry.

Through coursework and a major project, students will develop individual responsibility, creative processes, critical analysis and the capacity to undertake advertising projects and campaigns. This course is unique in that it combines creative arts development with advertising communication strategies.

To help integrate study with work and personal commitments, Deakin has designed its Advertising postgraduate course with flexibility and support. On and off-campus study are available for most units, and full or part-time study modes are available.

Career opportunities

Employment opportunities range from national and international advertising agencies, to marketing departments in large corporations, to creative entrepreneurs in smaller, boutique advertising and design companies. Employers in these types of organisations are looking for graduates who are self motivated, creative, confident, enthusiastic, prepared to challenge, flexible and resilient.
