You are invited to New Wave an exhibition of en-plein-air painting and drawing.
This exploratory work, raw, observational and expressive, was produced 'on-location' along the Geelong waterfront and environs.
Displayed in the Galleria, Waterfront campus, here is evidence of a new wave of cultural activity which, from 2012, will emanate from the campus to enliven and enrich the City of Geelong.
Many of these students have moved to Deakin's Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts) from Gordon Institute's degree program. They will work out of new facilities opening this year which will include an 'atelier' style studio and labs equipped for digital and chemical Photography. They will enjoy, alongside numbers of newly commencing students, the maritime environment that has been the inspiration of countless artists.
The vibrant waterfront location is an excellent inspiration for the Visual Arts program at Deakin's Geelong Waterfront Campus. The strong Arts community and aspiring students of the arts in many forms will be challenged and rewarded through this new initiative which is sound preparation for a range of careers.
The Exhibition will be opened by local artist Phillip Doggett-Williams, recent participant in Lorne Sculpture 2011. Phillip will also judge the award for best work generously supported by Cavalier Art Supplies.
