Deakin journalism lecturer visits university in Norway

Associate Professor Stephen Quinn spent a week with staff and students at the Norges Kreative Fagskole (NKF) in Oslo in Norway in June 2009. Dr Quinn was invited by Mr Lars Bache, NKF Journalism Program Director, to serve as a guest lecturer. During this time, Dr Quinn ran workshops for staff and students, and discussed curricula issues.

NKF is the most successful journalism program in Norway. This year its student numbers were up 26 per cent compared with the previous year. All but one of the country's eight other journalism programs had reduced enrollments.

The NKF journalism school has a excellent facilities, teachers with formidable industry links, and a central city location, which means students can walk to Parliament and the offices of the country's main newspaper officesin a fewminutes.

Dr Quinn also visited VG. and Aftenposten, the two main Norwegian daily newspapers, and the national broadcaster NRK
