Deakin student wins inaugural Whitmore Press / Poetry Idol Manuscript Prize

The winner of the inaugural Whitmore Press/Poetry Idol Manuscript Prize is Jamie King-Holden, a Geelong-based Professional and Creative Writing / Literary Studies student. The prize was awarded on Sunday evening, 5 September 2010, at Federation Square as part of the Melbourne Writers Festival.

Jamie won out of a field of almost one hundred entries from around Australia. The award was judged by Anthony Lynch and A. Frances Johnson. They described Jamie's manuscript as having 'a striking lyric intensity grounded in urban and suburban moments, with poems situated in the domestic but graphically capturing wider concerns of intimacy and distance, light and dark'.

Jamie's manuscript will be published by Whitmore Press as a limited edition chapbook in early 2011.
