Role and profile Bronwyn Kirby is a public relations professional with over 20 years’ experience in professional and management roles with a strategic corporate communications focus prior to joining Deakin in 2002.

On graduating with an Arts degree, Bronwyn began her career as a copywriter for an international travel organisation. Over the next five years she was promoted to the roles of Copywriting Co-ordinator, Design Co-ordinator, and, ultimately, International Publications Co-ordinator. She then moved into the film and video industry as the National Marketing Manager for two independent distributors. In these fast-paced roles she was integral to the marketing, creative and publicity functions and all the associated strategic communication.

Public relations became Bronwyn’s passion when she was appointed Senior Public Relations consultant with a public relations consultancy, working in the role for over ten years. Her work included managing the public relations needs of clients in the industry, government, commercial and not-for-profit sectors. The scope of her work included extensive media liaison, strategic communication programs, sponsorship management, event management, and specialist writing projects.

Since 2002 Bronwyn has enjoyed the challenge of providing a real-life perspective for her public relations students at Deakin University. She holds a Master of Arts degree and is a member of the Public Relations Institute of Australia. Bronwyn maintains a strong link with the local business community through various activities and associations.

In 2012 Bronwyn was awarded a National Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning by the Australian Government's Office for Learning and Teaching, "For authentic teaching strategies that engage and prepare students to transition with confidence from the public relations classroom to the professional workplace".
