Role and profile Karen teaches within the Bachelor of Arts (Professional and Creative Writing) and Masters programs in Writing, Communications and Creative Enterprise. She teaches units on creative nonfiction, freelancing in the arts, industry internships, starting up creative arts enterprises and project collaborations. She has a particular research interest in creative nonfiction and the personal essay, and developing storytelling skills through virtual learning scenarios. She also enjoys creative projects as diverse as writing and editing of commissioned books, working with collaborative teams on creative proposals and events and setting up global networks of creative collaborators.

As a freelance writer Karen has run a creative freelance business for more than fifteen years. She has extensive experience in industry projects, and has produced 13 texts related to running a small business, communication and working with teams/projects. In recent times her interest has developed into writing creative online scenarios for higher education writing and experiential learning programs.
