Role and profile Katya Johanson is an editor and historian. She teaches units on editing, publishing and arts audiences.
She has taught editing and publishing units as part of Professional and Creative Writing at Deakin since 2004. She also teaches Representing Australia, and is the Faculty Higher Degree by Research coordinator.
Katya's primary research interests are Australian arts and culture, arts audiences, and arts and cultural policy. Her articles have been published in Media International Australia, Continuum, the International Journal of Cultural Policy, the International Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society and the Asia Pacific Journal of Arts and Cultural Management. In 2009, she co-authored Your Genre is Black: Indigenous Performing Arts and Policy, with Dr Hilary Glow. In 2001 she completed a PhD on 'The Role of Austalia's Cultural Council'. Katya has a Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing from RMIT and has worked in educational publishing. She also has a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and received a Deakin University Award for Teaching Excellence in 2008.
