Torika's creative work and practice-led research exists at the intersection of art and politics as she tackles issues around gender, race, globalization and contemporary visual culture. Torika is currently a doctoral candidate in the Centre for Contemporary Art and Politics at the College of Fine Arts. Her PhD research titled ‘The Personal is Geopolitical’: Constructing the Fijian Military Body is concerned with ways in which the Fijian military body has been mythologised and constructed through colonial and neo-colonial visual representations, and explores Fijian agency and the role of ‘soldier photography’ in the co-construction of these myths. |
