Sociology is a challenging discipline, it confronts you with a critical exploration of things in your life that you may well take for granted.
It may disturb the complacency with which you face your everyday existence.
It will make you think about where you are in the world, in Australia and in the community.
Sociology will also make you think about other people: the rich, the poor, the strong, the weak, the powerful, the oppressed; and more.
Sociology involves the study of people in society. It examines individuals, social groups and whole societies to discern how social factors, such as gender, ethnicity and class influence people’s lives.
In studying Sociology you examine the people around you, and ultimately yourself.
The Sociology major is offered at Deakin’s Melbourne (Burwood) Campus; Geelong (Waurn Ponds) Campus and Warrnambool Campus. Sociology is also available in off-campus mode.
