| Role and profile |
Colin Long lectures in cultural heritage and Asian studies. He is an urban historian with interests in Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian history and heritage, as well as Australian urban history. Dr Long has been involved in several ARC-funded projects. He has also done consultancy work for the Melbourne City Council, Victorian Department of Infrastructure and the Australian Heritage Commission. |

Dr Long has a number of research projects in progress: Workers Paradise? Four-part TV documentary series about the history of the Australian labour movement, Treatment development funded by inaugural Roger Coates Labour History Research Grant, through the Search Foundation. Documenting and interpreting the heritage of the Lao revolutionary movement, with Simon Wilmot, Subject of CRGS application for funding commencing in 2007 Heritage and Human Rights, with Bill Logan, subject of ARC Discovery Application for funding commencing in 2007 Vietnam: National, Cultural and Ethnic Identities, commissioned book for Reaktion Press, with Bill Logan. Heritage and Tourism in Havana, commissioned chapter for World Heritage and Tourism: Protection and utilization from a sustainability perspective. Remembering Places of Pain and Shame: Conservation of the Asia-Pacific Region’s ‘Difficult’ Heritage of Imprisonment Sites, Australian Research Council Discovery Grant UNESCO - Agent of Cultural Globalisation? Analysis of the Conflict between Universal Values and Local Cultural Identity in the Asia-Pacific Region, Australian Research Council Discovery Grant.
