30 May 2013 Culture shock
Presented by Dr Vince Marotta and Mr Roman Ruzbacky
Five international students (from Indonesia, Thailand, Peru and Colombia), who are currently studying at the Deakin University English Language Institute, will share their experiences about cultural differences. These will be discussed in relation to significance in their respective cultures (ie as relates to culture, history etc).
27 March 2013 Cultural perceptions
Our presenters will discuss the topic in relation to language, culture and how people think. They will ask:
- How do people communicate across cultures
- How can we better understand people who express themselves differently
- How do we build up intercultural communicative skills
They will set about interpreting some common misunderstandings and dispelling myths.
