Role and profile Alistair has extensive language teaching experience and substantial in-country experience in Indonesia. Alistair is a NAATI accredited Indonesian translator and has worked in that role for the Commonwealth Government in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. In 2005-2006 Alistair was on leave from Deakin and employed on the AusAID-funded 'Islamic Schools English Language Project' in East Java. He is currently Director of Deakin's in-country intensive Indonesian program, held in Malang, East Java at the Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim.

Current research projects Alistair is currently undertaking doctoral studies in education. His focus is on the intercultural understanding of Australian university students who learn Indonesian.

Memberships MLTAV, VILTA.
Conferences Alistair regularly presents at conferences. Recent presentations have included ASILE, VILTA and TEFLIN conferences.
