Role and profile Rob has been involved in the Australian community sector since the 1980s, in various roles as youth services coordinator, researcher, teacher, consultant. Rob quickly discovered that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’, and has since sought to “do” community both in theory and in practice. He has worked for local government, non-government organisations, TAFE and universities. Amongst his four post graduate qualifications is a PhD completed in 2007- specifically, a case study of a community development project.

Rob has retained an involvement in teaching, research and practice. Since August 2008 he has been a lecturer in Deakin’s Master of International and Community Development. He is also a director of the Borderlands Cooperative, and committee member of New Community Quarterly journal.

His main research interests are in understanding and responding to the predicaments facing us – ecological, social, economic and spiritual. His research interests include Community Building projects in Victoria; other worldviews of community and development, evaluation and reporting of practice.

His teaching responsibilities in the MICD include CD Theory and Practice A; Monitoring and Evaluation; and Submission and Tender Writing.
Teaching responsibilities Lecturing in the Masters of International and Community Development. Subjects include Monitoring and Evaluation, Needs Analysis, Internships, and CD Theory and Practice.
Research interests Community development practice
Current research projects Education for Sustainable Development - what is an appropriate pedagogy? Philosophy, theory and methodology for intervening in complex systems.
