Deakin has had a longstanding and productive partnership in senior officer training with the Department of Defence. This stretches back to the days when Deakin ran courses for the Army Staff College at Queenscliff. Currently Deakin is involved in conducting a Masters course for the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies (CDSS) for senior military officers and other Government officials engaged in national security issues.
The CDSS is responsible for providing Australian and overseas participants with the knowledge and skills required to operate at the strategic level in a complex and modern security environment. The current arrangement has been in place since 2006, when Deakin won the contract to provide a Master of Arts (Strategic Studies) at the senior officer course. This followed on immediately from another four-year contract between Deakin and the CDSS under which Deakin was principal contractor for the development and delivery of the 30 week curriculum.
Dr Christopher Snedden is Director of the MA(Strategic Studies) program for Deakin University. Deakin arranges and oversees a network of experienced academic supervisors and examiners in Australia and the region for the two major 10,000 word projects completed by course members.
