Education

Welcome to the website for the STEME Research Group.

The STEME Research Group includes staff and associates of Deakin University, Victoria, Australia, who are interested in improving the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Environmental and Mathematics Education through research into innovative educational practices.

The Re-Imagining futures in Science, Technology, Environmental and Mathematics Education strand of EFI aims to develop deeper strategic knowledge, and support innovation and change, around key contemporary issues in science, technology, environmental and mathematics education.  The aim of the group is to make a difference in the preparedness of children and youth and professionals to engage with and respond to contemporary STEME issues in a time of rapid growth in knowledge and in its applications and implications. Research in this strand broadly engages with questions relating to Science, Technology, Environmental and Mathematics education concerning:

  • The nature of teaching and learning
  • Student perceptions and engagement
  • Capturing classroom practice
  • Teacher learning and innovation
  • Partnerships supporting school and teacher practice
  • Education for sustainability and social justice
  • Rural education and equity
