Law Honours is a type B Honours structure, which basically means that it is imbedded in the course. It is not a separate course such as the M400 Commerce Honours.
Just as there are three different law course structures, currently running, there are also three different Honours structures that Law students can follow.
Honours Program One is only available to students who commenced prior to 2002. This structure involves completing MLL401 Legal Project in addition to the 24 LLB units. (This is a type A honours structure).
Honours Program Two is available to students who commenced in 2002. This structure can also be adopted by students who commenced prior to 2002. Under this structure students may or may not choose to complete MLL401 Legal Project.
Honours Program Three is available to students who commenced in 2003 onwards. This structure can also be adopted by students who commenced prior to 2003. Under this structure students may NOT complete MLL401 Legal Project.
NOTE: MLL401 Legal Project is a 2 credit point unit, which requires the student to write a 10,000 word thesis, under academic supervision. MLL401 Legal project is a pipelining unit and is only available to LLB students who commenced their Law course before 2003, which is when the third Honours structure was introduced.

Supervisor
The School's Executive Committee
will allocate a supervisor for each successful applicant if the applicant has not already approached a Law lecturer prior to application. Candidates
are urged
to make contact with their supervisor as soon as possible to finalise
the topic of their research paper. The onus of making this contact
rests upon the candidate.
Enrolment
Candidates must enrol in the research
unit (MLL401 Legal
Project) in the approved semester as indicated in their application form. Students who are not given their first semester of preference will be notified accordingly.
Due date and submission
The research paper submitted in fulfilment of the requirements of this unit must then be completed by the beginning of the examination period in that semester and submitted to the supervisor for marking. Research papers are marked by a member of staff, or external examiner, and a grade entered by the Unit Chair of Legal Project, within the time allowed for returning results in that semester.
The examination periods are usually scheduled as follows:
Extensions
Under no circumstances will the date
for submitting a research paper be extended unless the School's
Executive Committee or Unit Chair gives approval.
Unit co-ordination
In
2008 the Unit Chair of Legal Project is John Morss . Should a candidate have any questions
of a general nature about this unit they should be directed
to the
Unit Chair: tel (03) 9244 6236. Questions about your thesis should be directed
to your supervisor.
