Deakin University's Arts Management Program has been providing professional development for arts managers in the Australian arts and cultural sector for over 15 years.
Arts management is a career for people who are dedicated to and passionate about the arts. Our program is based on the view that arts managers are vital in creating opportunities for artists and arts organisations to come together with their audiences.

Tamara Jungwirth is CEO of Gasworks Arts Park, a multi-arts community hub in Albert Park Melbourne which includes theatres, gallery spaces, artist studios, workshop spaces, a park, cafe and community markets.
Tamara was the Commercial Manager at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image at Federation Square during 2006-2010. Her team of 30 staff managed the cafe, the museum shop, private catering, publishing, e-commerce, merchandise development, wholesaling, 12 international film festivals and 180 cultural events annually.
From 1997 to 2006, Tamara worked on the construction, opening and operation of Melbourne Museum's commercial facilities including the IMAX Theatre, the Royal Exhibition Building, seven food and beverage outlets, a 900 bay underground car park and a multi-million dollar catering services agreement. She also managed key IT projects such as the installation of visitor ticketing and event space booking systems. As the Director of Melbourne Queer Film Festival from 1994 to 1997, Tamara doubled ticket sales and curated a national tour to five other Australian capital cities. An award-winning documentary film director, Tamara Jungwirth's works have shown across Europe, Australia, USA, Canada and South America. Tamara has post-graduate qualifications in Arts Management and Accounting and sits on the board of BalletLab and the Advisory Board of Arts Management at Deakin University.
Having spent most of my working life in and around the arts performance industry, I gathered experience ranging from teaching dance, production of school musicals, choreography, marketing and promotions, tours for classical music groups, both within Australia and overseas, theatre production, managing a music school, and conference management. Being accepted into the Graduate Diploma of Arts and Entertainment Management enabled me to refine many of the 'on the ground' skills I had gathered over the years. The course was most timely for me, providing new skills when the arts industry was moving to a more professional management era. I am a director of Bay Street Productions, a small theatre company producing original Australian plays on musical themes and latterly plays with a focus on health issues under the banner 'Healthplay'.
Malcolm has worked as a manager in the arts sector for fifteen years. After obtaining his Bachelor of Education, Malcolm worked as a Drama teacher in the Western Suburbs for six years. He was part of the second intake for the Graduate Diploma in Arts and Entertainment Management at Deakin University in 1994. Malcolm has worked as Manager of the Bharatam Dance Company, Manager of the Performing Arts at the Centre for Adult Education, and more recently as General Manager of St Martins Youth Arts Centre from 2003 to 2007. He commenced the role as General Manager at Courthouse Arts in Geelong in late 2007. Deeply passionate about young people and their involvement in the arts, Malcolm is currently leading a major redevelopment of an exciting youth arts venue to open in Geelong in 2011.
Susan Strano has worked for over 25 years as a performer, administrator, actors' agent, director, venue, project and program manager and arts locum. Her arts management experience spans theatre, community arts, international cultural exchange, program management and film and television production. Strano has worked with small to medium sized performance companies, universities, local councils and festivals and with the Asialink Centre where she developed and managed cultural exchange programs between Australia and countries of Asia. Most recently, she was Manager, Creative Communities at Regional Arts Victoria and is currently Arts Team Leader at the City of Port Phillip with responsibilities across the arts, heritage and community cultural development areas.
Brenda has worked in the arts and entertainment industries in various areas and roles. She began in radio as a copywriter and voice over performer before working with bands handling publicity and management. She has also worked for festivals including film festivals such as St Kilda, Melbourne International and Sydney as well as for arts festivals such as Next Wave and the Melbourne International Arts Festival. She's also done ad hoc projects such as organising major fund raising events for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre as well as handling publicity and assisting with the production of Petrouchka's Nightmare, a show combining classical ballet and circus performance.
