My name is Craig McGowan Coordinator of The Business Internship Program at Deakin University.

The Business Internship Program is very special – it enables students to get some real world experience as part of their course and goes towards credit at the same time.

Being out on the street seeing what the real world of work is like, students take away two very important things from The Business Internship Program.

One, being on the inside of a professional practice is something that you can't get inside a classroom. Understanding issues in the workplace is critical for future employment.

The second, which is equally important is a professional referee. If you can put somebody down as a referee that has supervised you in a professional setting then it is worth it's weight in gold, it's the difference sometimes between getting that key position and not.

The Business Internship Program is very flexible. It is available in any of our trimester's (one, two or three), it's available in Australia and overseas and is available as a form of paid work in some circumstances but in most cases it is unpaid.

Unpaid internships are still a rich learning experience because of the diversity that is available within them.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
