Why study Insurance, Risk management?

Deakin University offers a postgraduate Master of Insurance and Risk Management degree in the off-campus (distance education) mode.  This course satisfies the educational requirements of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) Fellowship award; and to satisfy the requirements in relation to the relevant competencies of Australina Securities Investment Commission (ASIC) Policy Statement PS146.
The Graduate Diploma of Financial Services provides students with a sound foundation in the financial services industry and depending on choice of units allows for a choice of specialisations being insurance or financial planning.The insurance specialisation (students must complete specified units) satisfies the educational requirements for Fellowship of ANZIIF while a financial planning specialisation satisfies a range of competencies required by ASIC under PS146 and also meeting entry requirements of the Financial Planning Association Certified Financial Planners Program

Entry to the Master of Insurance and Risk Management requires a four year undergraduate degree (or equivalent), or a three year undergraduate degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of two years professional or managerial experience in finance, insurance, financial planning, superaanuation or related industries

Those holding an undergraduate degree are eligible to apply for the Graduate Diploma.  Students seeking Fellowship of the ANZIIF through this course should first apply to the ANZIIF for acceptance into its Graduate Entry Program.  Those who do not hold an undergraduate qualification but who are Senior Associates of the ANZIIF and have a minimum of five years professional experience in the insurance industry may apply.

Course structure

The Master of Insurance and Risk Management requires the completion of eight credit points over 1 year or part time equivalent. Students have the option of completing a specialisation in Insurance or Risk Management.

The Graduate Diploma of Financial Services is an eight credit point course typically completed over four semesters of part-time study.  Students wishing to satisfy ANZIIF Graduate Entry Fellowship educational requirements must complete all six insurance units.

Both courses are offered in the off-campus/distance education mode only.
