Welcome to the Deakin University registration website for the Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) Conference on "Regulation, competition and taxation: Challenges for small business and accountants". The conference is
proudly sponsored by the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA) in conjunction with the School of Accounting Economics and Finance and the Centre for Sustainable and Responsible Organisations (CSaRO) at Deakin University.
This conference examines:

  • immediate issues facing SMEs in Australia such as those related to regulation, competition and taxation,
  • other longer term matters  related to SMEs such as sustainable governance and other sustainability subjects. 

Keynote speakers are:

  • Dr Warren Mundy, Australian Productivity Commissioner
  • Professor Robert Blackburn, Director SME Centre, University of Kingston, UK

Other prominent industry and academic presenters are:

  • Peter Strong, CEO, Council of Small Business Australia (COSBOA)

  • Representatives from Treasury, ASIC and the Department of Industry

While showcasing the recently signed collaboration agreement between the  IPA and Deakin University, establishing a unique research partnership focusing on SME research, the conference will also provide a forum for accounting professionals, government and the academic community to consider issues of concern that are currently impacting the SME sector.
