Date: 28 June 2011
The Deakin Commerce Alumni Chapter organised a professional development seminar and networking evening on Tuesday 28th June 2011. The event was held in the new and centrally located Deakin Prime building in the Melbourne city centre and was very well attended by over 80 members that included the Deakin commerce alumni, university lecturers and staff.
The guest speaker, Mr Gustavo Gomberg, Associate Director of KPMG, presented a seminar on the challenges in the transformation of Australia into a lower emissions economy.
Mr Gomberg who specialises in the energy and infrastructure sectors provided the attendees with an extensive insight into the current commercial energy trading systems in the power sector. As Mr Gomberg advises the Commonwealth and Victorian Governments on energy security and regulatory issues around carbon pricing policy; he had an interesting view on the very topical subject.
Mr Gomberg provided an informative overview on the economic sustainability of Australia by harnessing nuclear, wind, solar, geothermal and clean coal energy sources.
After the seminar, the guests had an opportunity to network and discuss their views over refreshments.
We would like to thank Michael Levy, Krishna Pillai, Andre Pfumojena, Mark Hui and Laura Griffith, for their efforts in organising the professional development seminar and the ongoing support that we have received from the Faculty of Business and Law that enables us to deliver these successful events.
