What is Accounting Information Systems?

Accounting Information Systems looks at the interaction between information systems and financial systems within an organisation. This area of study focuses upon the relationship between accounting and financial data, the technology supporting that data and, in particular, the ways it can be used (e.g. by the use of Business Intelligence). Studies in Accounting Information Systems will equip students with an understanding of the complexities of managing business systems that rely on information. Students will benefit from a deeper understanding of accounting systems when designing and implementing business systems and understanding information produced by accounting systems.

The study of Accounting Information Systems will help to enhance a person's business skills. For people with a background in accountancy or finance it will enhance their understanding of how Information Systems can be used within an accountancy or financial institution. For people with a background in information systems, this area of study will enhance their understanding of how accountancy or financial information is used within different types of Information Systems.
