Tourism

What is Tourism?

Students can study Tourism as part of a concurrent course offered by Deakin University and Box Hill Institute. The innovative program provides students with the opportunity to complete practical tourism training and business management studies. It is designed to support a range of career choices within the tourism industry and associated fields such as sales and marketing. This joint program of study will equip students with knowledge and skills in tourism operations management, customer service, sales and marketing, and will provide opportunities to develop business skills and concepts, conduct research, manage projects and implement operational plans. While Deakin studies concentrate on core management skills in a business context, the TAFE units ensure students experience a range of vocational training designed to develop hands on or applied skills in real work environments with strong links to industry. At second year, tourism students select a major sequence in either marketing or human resource management from Deakin.

Career opportunities

The combined management course in Tourism can lead to a career as a developer and marketer, government tourism consultant, major and special event coordinator, planner, researcher and consultant, tourism operator, tourism marketing manager and tourism planner.
