Dr Terry Boulter
Director, MBA

For more than 20 years Deakin University has consistently delivered a highly regarded MBA program. There are few business schools that can make a similar claim. Twenty years of experience means we understand the needs of students and employers and the importance of matching one to the other. We have a strong industry based Course Advisory Board that helps to ensure we provide graduates with the skills they need when they enter the job market. World-class academics then integrate theory into practice, and develop delivery options. The Faculty of Business and Law provides academic support services including writing workshops, mentoring programs, seminars and job fairs to ensure student success. Deakin MBA graduates enter the job market with the right skill set and are considered 'job ready'.

Deakin MBA graduates make valuable contributions in their fields and to the wider communities they serve. For this reason the Deakin MBA has a very good market reputation. The Deakin MBA has been awarded a five star rating from the Graduate Management Association of Australia. This means it is one of Australia's premier business qualifications. Being highly regarded by the business community gives Deakin MBA graduates an edge when competing for senior positions.

The Deakin Graduate School of Business recognises that in order to be successful, students need flexibility in how their subjects are delivered and choices in the areas of specialisation. The Deakin MBA provides a wide range of study options and offers more than 20 areas of specialisation.

Deakin MBA students can choose to study full-time or part-time, on campus or off campus. These modes of study are traditional styled study programs offered over a full trimester. Students attend lectures or listen to podcasts, work in teams, review pertinent literature, engage with their peers in group discussion face to face or electronically, and work closely with their discipline specialist as they extend their knowledge.

Alternatively, students can choose to study in residential mode. This is where they 'lock-down' at Deakin Management Centre in Geelong for an intensive one-week session. This intensive style of study provides an opportunity to complete a unit quickly, within a trimester. Students who participate in these intensive sessions develop strong support networks, and learn the importance of teamwork, leadership and delivering on commitments. The residentials also provide an opportunity to engage with practitioners in industry and the professions and to hear first hand how theory is put into practice. Block mode study requires a very high level of participation and engagement.

Students also have the choice to undertake units as study tours, where they interact with business executives in China, India and Australia. The 'tour' teaching experience focuses on experiential learning. Students undertaking these units visit companies and learn first hand how companies are tackling the challenges that they face. Students in teams then engage with these companies in the search for potential alternatives and solutions. It is this partnership type arrangement that provides practical relevance to the Deakin MBA, and increases the employability of its graduates.

Given these flexible options of study it is feasible to complete the 12 unit MBA over three trimesters of full-time study. The advantage of different study options is that you can design the MBA program to your requirements.

The Deakin MBA provides you with flexibility and choices. The MBA consists of eight core units plus four elective units. The four electives can form a specialisation of which there are more then 20 to choose from. For example, you could specialise in Finance, Business Consulting, Information Systems Management, Insurance, Environmental Sustainability, etc.

These flexible options of study and the wide choice of specialisations available provide unique learning experiences in areas of your interest and help to ensure a smooth and timely course progression when the dynamics of your job and family change.

The Deakin MBA is one of Australia's most highly rated MBAs, this is something that you must consider when mapping your future. To take the next step in the Deakin direction, please contact:
