Key Elements

For the host organisation

  • Access to the skills of students selected on the basis of their performance by the Deakin Graduate School of Business
  • No payment required by the business host organisation to the student.
  • No insurance costs to the host organisation - Deakin University Public and Products Liability Insurance Policy covers students involved in Business Practicum (applies to enrolled students of the University only - see Appendix B, C and D for details)
  • Full reporting and feedback to host organisations

For the student

  • Ability to link their work with the host organisations to their assessment tasks
  • Available Trimester 1 and 2
  • Access to selected host organisations in Melbourne or Geelong
  • Significant commitment to the host organisation (2 days per week) with commensurate academic credit (2 credit points)

For both parties

The Business Practicum Unit Chair is responsible for all aspects of the management and operation of the program. The unit chair is available to assist and guide both students and host organisations to ensure each project is a success.

Students draw upon knowledge gained in their studies in a range of post-graduate discipline areas including:

Accounting International Trade and Business
Corporate Governance Law
Economics Leadership and Communication
Electronic Business Marketing
Finance Project-based Management
Human Resources Management Public Management
Information Systems Management Strategy and Planning
Innovation Supply Chain Management

Students would normally commence a Business Practicum in the final trimester of their degree.
