Business Practicum completed Trimester 2, 2012
Brief: To design a strategic marketing plan for a physiotherapy firm.
I had always wanted to add a level of practical experience into the final part of my MBA program. This opportunity presented as a solid project to tie together so much of my prior learning and apply it to a real world business problem. The physiotherapy firm was, like many health care professionals, seeking a consultant to advise them on the strategic direction for future growth and expansion. The challenge for this unit was not only the standard demands of writing a strategic and evidence based marketing plan, but more so to sell the concepts and ideas to a business that has so far not had this approach to become successful. There were many existing strategic elements that were uncovered, and the consultancy approach allowed me to tie these in with some new ideas to achieve the aggressive future revenue targets that I had set.
I honestly feel now that this unit was critical to give me the confidence in my own abilities as a business consultant, and was by far the most rewarding unit I have ever done (in both my undergraduate studies and the MBA). Despite having been in a marketing role for some time already, this unit allowed me to challenge my current attitudes and experience, and really gave me an entirely different perspective. I sit back now proud of what I have achieved, and look forward to seeing the progression of this business which will be underpinned by the strategies I helped create.
I would highly recommend this for anyone currently doing their MBA, who really values what they have learnt and wants to take their learning to a higher level.
