Welcome to the School of Information and Business Analytics at Deakin. The technological advances over recent years combined with the mass adoption of social media and digital tools have made Information central to all aspects of work and life. Information Systems is a discipline that focuses on the capture, use and dissemination of information by individuals and organisations and the associated technologies and approaches.
Deakin Information and Business Analytics spans the full spectrum of the value chain of information from the harnessing and storage of information to the analysis of that information and evidence based decision making that adds value-add to organisations and society. Our research and teaching programs explore and examine the role and use of information in developing creative and innovative approaches for organisations to improve their strategic and operational performance as well as how society can better utilise information networks and technologies to enhance the quality of life and community aspirations.
We offer coursework based academic programs in Information Systems and Business Analytics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as a higher degree by research program aligned to our research themes. Our Bachelor of Information Systems degree is unique in enabling students to combine Information Systems with a wide range of other disciplines as a single or double degree. Our Master of Business Analytics degree is a collaborative academic program with industry and the only one of its kind in terms of the breadth of its curriculum, the strong practice focus and the flexible and innovative mode of delivery.
Our research program is captured by two themes, Business Informatics and Social Informatics, based on the primary benefactor of the research. The research methodologies used include both qualitative and quantitative approaches and be theoretical or applied in nature.
Our School has a vibrant industry partnership program. Our industry partners are actively engaged with the School to ensure our academic programs are current and relevant, and develop work-ready graduates. Our Industry Advisory Board consists of major employers of Information Systems and Business Analytics graduates.
