Honours

Future Prospects

One of the most critical challenges in job search today is to distinguish yourself from many other undergraduates - your competitors. Having an Honours degree will give you a competitive advantage in the job market.

Indeed, past students have indicated that an Honours degree provided them with the additional skills that employers were seeking:

  • Recognise and enhance your independent and enquiring mind
  • Acquire and improve your critical thinking and creative problem solving skills
  • Gain and deepen your understanding and knowledge of contemporary topics
  • Learn to conduct and complete a research project and demonstrate your research capabilities
  • Develop and advance your professional communication skills - including presentation and formal report/thesis writing skills

Possessing the skills gained through an IS Honours degree provides strong evidence of your capabilities to address this expectation and demand by prospective employers within for example Business, banking and Finance sectors.

For many students, Honours can also be a pathway to becoming a research academic. Firstly, you may be given an opportunity to work as a tutor. Secondly, the possession of an H1 Honours degree assists you in obtaining a PhD scholarship. Discover yourself - maybe you should become an academic - a few past students have done this! At our School, Honours has become a research incubator to grow our base of PhD students and staff.
