Master of Information Systems

The Master of Information Systems (MIS) is designed to provide students with high quality and interdisciplinary education and training across the breadth of Information Systems (IS). The course offers career opportunities and enhanced employment prospects both:

  • to traditional IS students who desire skills and knowledge relevant to their pursuit of a career in IS; and
  • to students who do not see IS as their principal career but who want to combine IS skills and knowledge with relevant discipline areas such as marketing, commercial law and international business.

Course Structure

The MIS takes 1.5 years to complete on a full-time basis or 3 years to complete on a part-time basis. The MIS course comprises 12 credit points. Students are required to complete 3 credit points of core Information Systems units, 5 credit points of Information Systems units which may be grouped to form an Information Systems specialisation and 4 credit points of Information Systems units or elective units which may be grouped to form an Information Systems or interdisciplinary specialisation.

The flexible structure allows students to choose a combination of units most relevant to their interests and needs, via coursework and minor thesis, coursework and business project or coursework alone. Additionally, the wide choice of electives further enhances students' options.

A combined Master of Information Technology/Master of Information Systems degree can be completed in 2 years on a full-time basis or part time equivalent.
