2011 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching and Learning
Congratulations to Associate Professor Jacob Cybulski from the School of Information Systems, as a member of a team including Institute of Teaching and Learning (Associate Professor Dale Holt, Mr Stephen Segrave and Ms Judy Munro) and Knowledge Media (Mr David O'Brien) who have been selected to receive a 2011 Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching and Learning.
The award is for the project titled 'Effective partnering delivers e-Simulations for flexible education in the professions: Deakin leads national project building organisational capacity'.
The project aims were:
- to build institutional capacities for the development and use of e-Simulations created locally for university academic and professional staff to facilitate real work learning experiences; and
- to develop capacities across three universities in the development and use of e-Simulations through action learning and research and to share capacity-building approaches between themselves and with the rest of the sector.
Substantial benefits from this project for teaching and learning and for Deakin include:
- new internal and external collaborations enhancing the capacity to design, develop, produce and evaluate e-Simulations (e.g. including RMIT, CSU and overseas collaborators);
- new e-Simulations for the professions (available figures show that approx. 10 000 Deakin students have used and benefited from the e-simulations at Deakin alone in Business and Law, Arts and Education and Health);
- new educational and technology based research across professional fields;
- publications, including a book (in press) co-edited by the project members and with contributions from Australian and international researchers in this field; and
- various forms of dissemination about Deakin and its e-simulation programme in Australia and worldwide.
The successful applicants were chosen from a strong field of contenders. Congratulations to Jacob for the Vice-Chancellor's recognition of this work.
