Student Awards for 2010

The School of Information Systems held an Awards Night for the 2010 academic year on Tuesday 31 May, celebrating the success of the Students undertaking courses, majors or subjects within the School.

The night began with a very inspiring speech by a returning Deakin Alumni, Zac Domagalski who graduated in 2001. In the few years that has passed, Zac has made quite the impression with his career, now working as a Manager in Enterprise Information Management at Deloitte. Talking about his experiences with in Deloitte but also on the directions of the industry, Zac gave a very engaging and beneficial speech to all those in attendance.

Congratulations to the 20 students that were recognised for their academic achievements and to the 6 students that were recognized for their extracurricular activates and contribution through DIGITS.

The awards ceremony was attended by students, guests, sponsors, industry and staff and was preceded by canapés and networking.

The School would like to thank Australian Computer Society, Cengage Learning, GS1 Australia, Pearson Education Australia, DeakinPrime, Faculty of Business and Law, Rodney Fountain Memorial Prize who provided sponsorship and support of the awards.

Deakin Students Excel in SAP Supply Chain Simulation Game Competition, coming second overall!

A team of three students studying MSC388 Strategic Supply Chain Management represented Deakin University at the SAP Supply Chain Simulation Game on Tues 31 May 2011, hosted by Victoria University. The team came runners up! The Deakin team comprised Jake Sztanski (BBIS Burwood), Duc Dat Nguyen (BCom Burwood) and Rodney Samuriwo (BMan Geelong).

During the competition the teams had to manage the supply chain of a manufacturer of cereal and sell in changing market using SAP software. The students had no prior experience with the software. The competition was opened by Lindsay Fox and each team had a mentor from Linfox to provide advice and help with the software.

There were five universities represented at the competition and the place getters were:

  1. RMIT University
  2. Deakin University
  3. Victoria University

The other universities represented were Monash University and Swinburne University.


DIGITS Boot Up Party

DIGITS Boot Up Party started trimester 1 with a bang! With over 90 people showing up to have some fun it was a great time by all. We have students in all stages of their degrees and careers in attendance, whether it is first year, final semester of masters and even some Alumni. CQ bar was a very impressive decked out with all the students.

A special appearance was made by the Head of School for the School of Information Systems, Professor Matthew Warren and senior lecturer Dr Shona Leitch.

A big thank you to all students and staff that came to make it such an enjoyable night by all!

Get ahead information sessions

The Get Ahead Information Sessions did just that for students, allowed them to get ahead of their peers.

The first session was on the Whitehorse Business Skills Program in which over 20 students registered their interest for on the day. This program allowed for students of all disciplines to enter into a business venture and undertake the responsibility required for and the learning needed to work in managerial roles and all facets of business.

Following the Whitehorse Business Skills Program, a Deloitte Manager came in to talk about Deloitte, the business and the opportunities for young graduates. He gave a great overview on what Deloitte is, what it means to be an employee,what you can achieve and the expectations of employers on summer internship and graduate programs and the long term view of employers.
