Securing organisational knowledge in the era of social media

Inadvertent leakage of commercially sensitive knowledge and information is a key concern for organizations, especially in an era of social media. 'Inadvertent' is accidental disclosure, rather than deliberate disclosure of commercially sensitive knowledge or information (e.g. by a disgruntled employee). Inadvertent leakage occurs when commercially sensitive knowledge or information such as client confidential details, competitively sensitive knowledge, operational strategies etc leak to unauthorized parties. Social media is considered to be the most powerful leakage channel when considered with other forms of communication channels and it is important to identify what is particular about social media that makes it prove to leakage. Hence, my research project aims to identify the key mechanisms that are necessary to protect organizational knowledge assets and the measures on how to mitigate the leaking of commercially sensitive knowledge and information in organizations through social media. It will provide strategic and operational level mechanisms to organizations on how the risk of inadvertent leakage can be mitigated.

Effective Rubric Design: A Systematic Approach to Constructive Alignment for Assessing Learning Outcomes

Date: 17 May
Time: 2.00pm - 3.00pm
Venues:B - IBM CoE; F - ad3.307; W - Jabber (Please dial 52236921 for video conferencing)
Speaker: Dr Bhavani Sridharan (Learning Innovations, Faculty of Business and Law)

The use of online rubrics to evidence students learning outcome is a crucial theme for many higher educational institutions. Besides, one of the driving forces behind the popularity of online rubrics is the binding requirement by Universities to provide evidence of student learning outcome to National quality assurance agencies (AQF, TEQSA) and international accreditation bodies (AACSB). One of the most tested and proven method for evidencing student learning outcome is through using online rubrics. However, the success of evidencing learning outcome through online rubrics is only a piece of the puzzle. The other pieces of the puzzle for effective implementation of online rubrics come from the constructive alignment of a number of intertwined factors: University level mission; course level mission; unit level learning outcome; authentic assessment design; assessment methods, teaching and learning activities; and effective rubric design. Consequently, this presentation looks at the holistic approach to effective and efficient online rubric development. In doing so, this presentation follows a step-by-step approach and answers to fundamental questions relating to the constructive alignment and effective rubric design.
