Victorian Attorney-General Launches CRRLJ's Conflict of Interest Report

Victorian Attorney-General, Hon. Robert Clarke MP

The Hon Robert Clark MP was joined by Vice Chancellor of Deakin University, Professor Jane den Hollander to launch the Centre's recent publication 'Conflicts of Interest in Victorian Rural and Regional Legal Practice.' The 5 June event was co-hosted with the National Rural Law and Justice Alliance at Deakin Waterfront's Atrium building.

The Centre's report reveals variation to approaches to conflict of interest depending on factors such the remoteness of legal practices, years of experience of practitioners as well as size, type and area of practice. It also includes recommendations for improving current policies, processes and practices. Speaking at the launch, Centre Patron County Court Judge Gerard Mullaly noted the Centre 'always looked to what solutions are possible.'

As well as the full report, a plain language resource for the public has been distributed to both private and not for profit legal centres around Victoria. Both publications are available on the Centre's Publications page.
