Classes
Law Induction School
A three-day Law Induction School
is held each year for the incoming first year class of off-campus students. The Induction School incorporates lectures and tutorials designed to provide students with an intensive introduction to the Australian legal system.
University 'O' week
The University runs an orientation program for first year students, designed to introduce
both on-campus and off-campus students to many aspects of the University.
Information sessions as well as many social activities will be scheduled
during the last week of February. Details are provided on enrolment days.
Classes
Classes are conducted over a Trimester.
As far as possible, the material to be covered in a unit will be taught
evenly over that period
and it is expected that new material will be covered throughout the duration
of the semester. When structuring the classes for each unit, the Law School has taken
account of the prescriptions for accreditation specified by the Council
of Legal Education (COLE). This has determined the rate at which most
of the compulsory units in the LLB degree are taught.
Geelong, Burwood and Warrnambool
Study at Geelong, Burwood and Warrnambool has been designed to suit the needs of
full-time students. Thus, classes are conducted during the day at the rate of three to four hours of classes each week, plus an hour of tutorials for the first 8 law units, on a weekly or fortnightly basis. All other law units generally have a four hour lecture.
Off-campus study
Off-campus students study material which has been quantified and designed
to also conform to this prescription of three to four hours of classes
each week. In addition they are expected to utilise the computer conferencing system
Deakin Studies Online (DSO).
Classes commence on the hour and finish ten minutes to the hour.
