Mooting competitions

Various moots are conducted each year. Participation is optional but encouraged as a means of developing valuable research and advocacy skills. These moots include the following:

Jessup Moot
This competition is conducted each year as part of an international competition. Students are encouraged to watch D-Brief and DLSS announcements for further details.

Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition
Since 1994, students from the School of Law have participated in the International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition in Vienna. This has enabled Deakin students to meet students from around the world, work within the framework of different legal system, and to enjoy the challenge of competing internationally. With the export of legal services now an important area of opportunity for Australian law firms, the international moot competition is a wonderful experience and practical introduction to the globalisation of legal work.

The Law Book Company and Mallesons mooting competitions
An internal mooting competition is conducted each year, sponsored by the Law Book Company and Mallesons.

Governor-General's moot
This competition is conducted each year between the four Victorian Law Schools.

Intervarsity moots
Intervarsity moots are conducted each year locally for Victorian Universities and on a national basis.
