The School seeks to make postgraduate legal education available to persons unable to attend conventional classes. Units are offered on-campus, off-campus and off-shore and courses may be structured to be undertaken full or part-time.
On-campus teaching is conducted on the University's Melbourne Campus at Burwood. Where units are taught on-campus during the day, the teaching model used is similar to that adopted in many United States Law Schools. These classes usually total three hours per week.
Off-campus teaching is conducted using a combination of distance education teaching materials and Deakin Studies Online (DSO).
Deakin Studies Online (DSO)
The Law School uses computer mediated learning to augment its off-campus
delivery. Using Deakin
Studies Online (DSO) teaching and learning environment.
It is a very important method of communication between lecturers and unit chairs and their students as important course information is made available through DSO. It also provides a unique opportunity for all students to express their views on the subject matter of the unit. More information on the specific use of DSO for individual units is provided to students by lecturers and can be found in the Unit Outline of study materials provided. DSO is available both remotely (ie. from outside the University) and from all on-campus computer laboratories. Remote access is gained via the Internet and the DSO software is provided on the Deakin Learning Toolkit CD provided to all students.
