- About Deakin
In March and April 2012, the culmination of five months of hard work and dedication arrived for the School of Law team in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.
The Vis Moot and the Vis (East) Moot run annually in Vienna and Hong Kong. Deakin is one of only a small number of Law Schools to have participated in the Vis and Vis (East) Moot every year that they have run.
The Moot is a mock-arbitration competition requiring students to research two areas of international commercial law (international commercial arbitration and the international sale of goods) in detail as they apply to a hypothetical case, prepare two sets of written legal arguments (one for each side in the dispute), and then prepare for the oral rounds - arguing the case against law schools from around the world in Vienna and Hong Kong.
This year's Vis Moot team comprised of nine students:
Preeti, Priya, Daniel and Rebekah represented the team and the Law School at the oral rounds.
This year the team enjoyed success at the competition once again with the team's Memorandum for the Respondent receiving an Honourable Mention award in Vienna. This is an excellent reflection of the entire team's hard work as less than 10% of the over 280 teams competing in the Vienna competition received this recognition - placing Deakin's Memorandum for the Respondent squarely amongst the best in this year's competition.
Congratulations to all nine team members for this fantastic result!
