Each year an internationally renowned scholar or practitioner is awarded the George Fairfax Fellowship to visit Deakin University, to conduct intellectual master classes and seminars, and to deliver the Kenneth Myer Lecture. To date, as a result of the Fellowship initiative, 14 papers have been delivered by these Fellows.

There is no better memorial to George Fairfax than the George Fairfax Fellowship in Arts and Entertainment Management at Deakin University.

George Fairfax AM (1928-1996) played a unique role in establishing the arts management program at Deakin University, chairing the inaugural Arts Management Advisory Board. George was actor, director, arts manager, a man of immense vision and integrity, strength and generosity. He was General Manager of the Victorian Arts Centre. The George Fairfax Fellowship was established to commission, publish and present research on the cultural industry, to better inform the industry of issues and to aid our students.

Kenneth Myer

Kenneth Myer (1921-1992) was the eldest son of Sidney Myer, and was a passionate supporter of the arts in his lifetime. He was founding Chairman of the ABC, and amongst other philanthroic and community engagement, sat on the Boards of the Victorian Arts Centre and the National Library of Australia.

The Deakin University George Fairfax Fellowship was initiated with endowment grants from the Sidney Myer Fund, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, and the Faculty of Business and Law, Deakin University.
