The tourism industry is one of the most dynamic sectors of the Victorian economy. International visitor numbers are set to expand in Victoria, and domestic tourism is huge.
In response to the growing demand for tourism professionals, Deakin University and The Gordon have partnered to deliver Sustainable Tourism Management in Geelong in 2012. Students will gain three qualifications in three years: a Diploma of Sustainability and Advanced Diploma of Tourism from The Gordon, and a Bachelor of Management, from Deakin University.
The new program will be dual delivered (or concurrent) which means you will be a Deakin University and Gordon student at the same time. Students will attend classes at both Deakin's Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and The Gordon City Campus to attain their qualifications. The courses will explore issues in management, marketing, ethics and the environment, giving you a firm grounding for a successful career in the tourism industry.
The majority of tourism-related businesses employ around 20 staff, including substantial numbers of young people. If you're after a job that is both satisfying and interesting, there are a lot of opportunities: Tour operations manager, tourism professional, park ranger, adventure tourism manager, research, management or marketing roles and eco-tourism specialist.
A similar program is also delivered at Deakin's Melbourne Burwood Campus with Box Hill Institute.
