- About Deakin
'This is a fantastic performance by any measure and we're the only Australian university with such a ranking,' said Professor David Shilbury, Chair in Sport Management from the School of Management and Marketing.
'In terms of graduate outcomes, based on surveys conducted with 2009 graduates, Deakin University had the highest average salary achieved after three years from graduation,' he said.
One of the key comments from our past graduates was that 'Deakin utilised the local sport industry knowledge and under the advice of industry leaders tailored the programme's curriculum to meet industry needs and best practices.'
'Australia is one of the top sporting nations in the world. Underpinning this multi-billion dollar industry are business graduates and professionals who provide direction and leadership to sporting organisations across the country,' said Professor Paul Couchman, Head of the School of Management and Marketing. 'I'm very glad to see that our Sport Management teaching team has achieved such a high mark,' he said.
The SportBusiness International's Postgraduate Sports Course guide 2012 considered programs at a Masters level or above and looked at employment success rates compared to course data including course length, student numbers, international/domestic split and female/male ratios. The results identified Deakin as one of the institutions bucking the trend of graduates often being satisfied by the quality of teaching in their course, but less so with the job support provided.
The Master of Business (Sport Management) is offered by the School of Management and Marketing with Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 intakes in 2012.
