Distinguished service award

Professor David ShilburyProfessor David Shilbury has been honoured with the inaugural Distinguished Service Award of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ). SMAANZ is the premier sport management association for academics in Australasia.The Distinguished Service Award is the Association's highest honour. The Award was presented at the SMAANZ Conference that took place at Bond University, Gold Coast in November 2009.

The Award recognises Professor Shilbury's contribution to the establishment of sport management as an academic discipline in Australasia. He became Australia's first Professor of Sport Management in 2000 and was responsible for the implementation of the first business-based sport management program in Australia, at Deakin University. This program celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2010.

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
