- About Deakin
Marketing graduates are usually in demand because of the wide range of industries and service industries which have adopted the value-adding approach to customers that modern marketing involves. The science of marketing and its practice are closely intertwined. As a consequence, university graduates in marketing are seen as professionals who are adept at the development of relationships between buyers and sellers, and in managing these relationships in such a way that both parties profit by the exchange. In exceeding customer expectations, modern marketing organisations satisfy and retain their customers while at the same time are more likely to improve their own profit position.
While we traditionally associate marketing practice with profit, in truth, marketing is practiced by a range of organisations including those in the not-for-profit sector. Organisations such as the Salvation Army rely on their marketing prowess in successfully mounting their Red Shield Appeal, for example. In addition, there are many service industries that are allied to the marketing profession. These include marketing research, advertising, and direct and online marketing agencies, as well as marketing logistics companies involved in managing inventories and distributing products so that timely customer fulfilment occurs.
Take advantage of Deakin's Study Abroad program - there are plenty of benefits. That is the advice of Deakin Commerce graduate Hannah Lundgaard, who spent eight months in Copenhagen during the final year of her degree.
Hannah hopes to pursue the keen interest in international marketing she gained through her Copenhagen experience and feels that her Study Abroad opportunity has placed her in a good position. She highly recommends others incorporate it into their degree. 'The university is really encouraging and can provide students with financial assistance. But most of all, it's a point of difference when applying for graduate positions and also just a whole heap of fun!'
