Adam KargWe are pleased to welcome Adam Karg as the latest member of the sport management team.

Having joining as a lecturer in February, Adam continues an ongoing presence at the university, commencing with the completion of his undergraduate degree majoring in Sport Management and Sport Economics in 2002. Following this, he worked with sport media and marketing organisations both in Australia and overseas, before returning to Deakin to complete a First Class Honours degree in 2007 focused on sponsorship management within corporate organisations. During his Honours year, he was a winner of the inaugural SMAANZ International Sport Management Case Study Competition that looked at the development of the Asian Football Confederation.

Adam was then awarded an Australian Postgraduate Scholarship Award, and submitted his doctoral thesis in January 2011. His research involved case studies with some of Australia’s leading National Sport Organisations (NSOs) investigating the impact of organisational structure on functioning. Findings sought to understand the impact of structural design decisions and develop an agenda of barriers that hinder the organisational performance of complex, multi-functional sport organisations.

In 2011 Adam will continue to teach in the undergraduate and postgraduate Sport Management programs at in the areas of Sport Organisation, Sport Promotions and PR and Sport Marketing. In addition to his organisational research with NSOs, Adam continues to undertake research projects with many of Australia’s leading professional sport teams around season ticket holder and membership services relating to satisfaction, fan engagement, sponsorship and branding. Additionally, he continues to undertake research in the areas of fantasy sport and its impact on sport consumption. Previously, Adam has been accepted to present his research at leading sport management conferences in Australia, New Zealand, North America and Europe as well as national and international marketing conferences including the UK Academy of Marketing and American Marketing Association conferences. In the last year, he has had research papers accepted and published in peer-reviewed journals including Sport Management Review, Sport in Society and the Journal of Sponsorship.
