The Faculty of Business and Law hosted its annual Dean's Merit List evening on Thursday 2 May at the RACV City Club, Melbourne.
The Dean's Merit List is held annually and is an occasion to recognise the outstanding achievements of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Business and Law students whose academic performance throughout their coursework degrees qualified them for inclusion on the Dean's Merit List. Only the top performing undergraduate and postgraduate students receive this honour. This year 59 Undergraduate and 49 Postgraduate awardees were on the Dean's Merit List.
Approximately 235 guests attended the presentation evening, which was hosted by Professor Gael McDonald, Pro Vice-Chancellor. We were honoured to have as our guest speaker for the evening Professor Jane den Hollander - Vice-Chancellor, Deakin University.
Professor den Hollander presented certificates to the recipients on the Dean's Merit List.
The DeakinPrime Business internship prize is included in the Dean's Merit List program also. This year Mr Simon Hann, Chief Executive Officer of DeakinPrime, was to present this award, however he was unable to attend and therefore Mr Craig McGowan awarded this in his absence. This award of $500 is given to the best two students who undertook Business Internship units in 2012. The students awarded were Stephanie Maloney and Jennifer Lowe.
The Geoff Neilson Prize winner, Ryan Knol, was also acknowledged on the evening as the highest achieving third year Bachelor of Commerce student at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds. This prestigious award is sponsored by Dr Geoff Neilson (retired partner Day Neilson and former Deakin Council member).
Perri Burns, Dean's Merit List awardee and also an Alfred Deakin Scholar, gave a wonderful student response which was very well received.
The Faculty would like to congratulate all Dean's Merit List recipients for their outstanding academic performance and wish them well for the future.
