The first Global Citizenship Award ceremony was held on October 13, 2011 at the Deakin University Melbourne City Campus. Professor Jane den Hollander, Vice Chancellor, Mr Rongyu Li, Executive Director Deakin International and Professor Tanya Castleman, Associate Dean (Development & International), Faculty of Business and Law, were among Deakin students and staff, and parents, who turned out to the event to celebrate the achievements of the these Global Citizens and their contribution to internationalisation at Deakin University.
The Faculty of Business and Law would like to extend their congratulations to all of our students who completed the Global Citizenship Program in 2011 and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

The Global Citizenship Program is a program aimed at supplementing students studies at Deakin by recognising international activities such as, international study experiences, participation in internationally-focused units, seminars on international topics, international internships, international-centred volunteering along with personal reflection and growth.
Many of this year's award-holders proved to have exceptional international experience, including volunteering in the developing world, significant other domestic/ international internships and semester-long study abroad among many others undertakings.

Faculty of Business and Law student Sam Kealey was one of the recipients of the Global Citizenship Award. Sam has recently completed a Bachelor of Arts (International Studies)/Bachelor of Law at Deakin. During his four years of study Sam spend an exchange semester in Austria, travelled to South Korea twice on cultural study tours, volunteered as a Deakin Peer Advisor for 12 months and completed an internship at the United States Congress in Washington DC. Sam has many happy memories from his experiences.
'It definitely gave me a global outlook on my future. I realized the possibilities for employment and travel extended beyond Victoria and it really demonstrated to me how much the world has to offer.'
Sam will continue to pursue his passion for participation in the international community when he starts his career at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as a policy graduate.
