The CEMRC is a Faculty of Business and Law Research Centre with three specific aims:
The CEMRC was formed following the release of the 2009 Deakin University Strategic Research Plan (page 7, Strategy 2, Action 2) 'Development of New Partnerships in China'
The CEMRC aims to foster strong collaborative ties and research partnership with reputable organizations in China. The CEMRC's main objective is to publish high quality papers in top-tier accounting and finance journals in order to establish a status as the beacon in Australia for finance research in China capital markets. The excellent reputation established by the CEMRC allows easier access to external funding from industries, governments and private organizations, adds to the profile of our School's PhD program and should establish new research collaborations with universities in China, as well as stock/futures exchanges in Shanghai.
The School of Accounting Economics and Finance and the Faculty of Business and Law generally, have embraced a recent focus on attracting top level new PhD completions with substantial time allowance for research. This focus is, in part, reflected in the list of Early Career Researchers (ECR) now members of the CMRC. These new researchers are complemented by a group of experienced advisory professors and staff and senior research members. The CEMRC promotes co-operative joint research with the new and senior staff members and advisors.
The CEMRC is implementing four project areas that focus on different aspects of China and emerging capital markets. There are 25 Deakin staff and PhD students involved with the CEMRC - 19 members (12 staff, 6 PhD and 1 research assistant with 2 PhD students as research assistants) and 6 advisory board members. Many of this grouping possess expert knowledge on China capital markets and/or possess relevant industry work experiences in China. All of them will be actively involved in some of the CEMRC projects.
